Master Yoda is opening a new school for young Jedi knights.  He must purchase the necessary equipment for the knights, pay for rent on a location, plus feed and house the young knights while they are in training.  These would all be his expenses .  In return, the Jedi “wanna be”s will pay Master Yoda money (tuition)  Your job will be to create a spreadsheet that will help Master Yoda know how many students he can take, how much to charge them, AND make some money! Set up your spread sheet to appear as the one below. Format cells B4-B9, B11, B13, and B15 for currency. In Cell B9, input the formula to determine the total expenses for each student. In Cell B11, type the following formula to figure the total tuition income: =B13*B12. In Cell B15, type the following formula: =B11-(B9*B12).  Be sure to include the ( ). Now the fun begins! Master Yoda isn’t sure how many students to accept OR how much to charge each student for the class.  You need to play around with different amounts in Cel...

The Task:  It is Master Yoda’s 2000 th birthday and a celebration is in order.  But the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO, hosts for the party, don’t have a lot of cash.  They have been given just $75 for the party from the Jedi Council. Twelve guests have been invited, including Master Yoda.  You will use a spreadsheet to plan the expenses of the party and make adjustments until you meet the $75 limit. Enter this information into your spreadsheet. Make the following formatting changes: Bold the labels in Row 4, & cells C16 and C17. Adjust the width of columns so that all of the cell content is displayed. Add a bottom border below Row 4. Fill Row 4 with a color of your choice. Put a bottom border under cells A14 through D14. Format cell C5 through D14 for currency. Format cells D16 and 17 for currency also. Right align the words in cells B4 through D4. Right align the words in cells C16 and C17 also. In column B you will enter estimate for the quantity of each item you need f...

Set up the initial spreadsheet with the following labels as shown below.  After inputting the label information, widen the columns as necessary.  You can also go to Format-columns-AutoFit, which will automatically widen column A as you type in your gifts.  Bold all labels in Row 1.  Put a solid line border UNDER the contents of Row 1.  Right align columns B through F. Go on-line and select four different gifts to give as Christmas or birthday presents. Use internet catalogs or web sites.  DO NOT SPEND ALL YOUR TIME SEARCHING FOR THE GIFT!   You need a brief description of the gift and the price of ONE item. Do not worry about the Shipping Column at this point. If you didn’t use AutoFit, widen column A as necessary.  An example appears below: Click and change columns B, D, E, and F to show dollar amounts. (Click on the dollar sign in the menu bar.)  Do NOT change Column C. If you are buying one of each item, put a 1 in the amount column. But if you are buying the same gift for two or m...

In this activity, you will learn about the SUM function, which is used to add various cells together. Be sure to read through and try everything in this first section. Enter in a spreadsheet the following data as you see here. To use the SUM function to find the sum of the numbers located in cells A1, A2, A3, A4, and A5, you first click the cell in which you would like the sum to be displayed.  In this case, A6 might be an appropriate cell in which to display the answer.  Click cell A6. Type =Sum(A1:A5) and press . You will see that the sum is displayed in cell A6 while the actual function is displayed in the Entry Bar. If you need to change the function, do so in the Entry Bar. Another way to use the SUM function (and not have to type in the cell addresses!) is to use the Sum icon from the Standard Toolbar. Delete the contents of cell A6. (Click on cell A6 and hit the delete button). Make sure you are still clicked on cell A6. The Summation Icon is the ∑ button. Click this button.  Th...
